FAQ about Teen
Challenge of Kentucky ministries
Is Teen Challenge only for teens?
No. Teen Challenge offers Christ-based substance abuse
ministry to adolescents, and men and women of all ages.
Is TC a program of a particular denomination?
Teen Challenge is a para-church organization that
accepts support, volunteers, and referrals from all Christian churches.
What is Teen Challenge International’s Mission
Statement?
Provide community-based drug education, prevention and
restoration programs on a national and international basis. Create a
framework that challenges people to reach their fullest potential
Spiritually -- Socially -- Educationally -- Occupationally. Develop and
nurture the transformation of restored individuals into useful,
productive, law-abiding citizens; committed to Christian faith, values,
and living.
What is TC of Kentucky’s Mission Statement?
It is to evangelize people who have life-controlling
problems and initiate the discipleship process to the point where the
student can function as a Christian in society applying spiritually
motivated biblical principles to relationships in the family, local
church, chosen vocation, and the community. Teen Challenge endeavors to
help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially
adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.
What is the Teen Challenge Lifeline Mission Statement:
TC Lifeline provides short-term, Christ-centered
nonresidential care and referral services for people with
life-controlling problems.
How does Teen Challenge Lifeline operate?
Teen Challenge Lifeline holds weekly classes in a
non-church location, ideally in a rented storefront. Before a person
can enter a Lifeline program, an extensive questionnaire must be
completed and signed. The Lifeline advisor will recommend care in a
long-term Teen Challenge residential center, if, based on the
questionnaire, that appears to be the most appropriate care for the
person’s life-controlling problem. If residential care is not
recommended or is not possible for the person at that time, the person
must complete all eight classes, along with participation in a local
church. Following completion of the classes, the Lifeline student then
graduates into a church-based recovery program. We recommend Turning Point.
Does TC Lifeline send people to residential treatment?
We encourage people to apply to a regional Teen
Challenge Residential center and will provide information
necessary for the person to make the application.
How is Teen Challenge Lifeline funded?
By contributions from individuals, churches, and
organizations. Teen Challenge Lifeline does not receive funding from
Teen Challenge of Kentucky. Lifeline’s are responsible for raising
their own support.
What is the Turning Point program?
Turning Point is one of two church-based recovery
programs that enable local congregations to set up small groups which
minister to those in recovery from life-controlling problems. Clayton
Arp, Teen Challenge director for Kentucky, is a certified trainer in
the Turning Point Curriculum, and will help local churches begin a
Turning Point ministry within their congregation. The Turning Point web
site is: (www.turningpointministries.org).
